Floor Decks

A unique system devised by ourselves with many advantages over having a concrete base.

  • Cost is significantly less with a deck base compared to a cement base
  • Time – a deck can be created quickly and easily
  • A deck can be moved and easily re-sited
  • Far more substantial than a floor
  • It can be used in difficult ground conditions such as a sloping ground level
  • Can be used on areas prone to flooding
  • Decks can be raised to allow sufficient air flow beneath the building.

Tanalised floor decking

Ground conditions can often be a problem when considering where to site a timber building. Uneven sites often need vast amounts of earth removed and there are often stump and root problems. It is then necessary to hire contractors or self hire diggers at great expense.

Another alternative is to build a retaining block or brick wall, with a mass of hardcore and vast amounts of concrete. Often, in these situations, the cost of the base is much higher than the building that will be situated on it, this making it an unviable proposition. We have therefore come up with a practical solution

A heavy duty floor deck, constructed of 4 x 2 tanalised timbers, raised on timber piers with diagonal bracing.
The deck is set on a series of pads and secured with anchor straps. Apart from huge savings, especially on larger buildings, another advantage is buildings will not be prone to flooding in adverse weather conditions. In addition, there is always a constant flow of air underneath the building.

We have used this practical and effective method on many buildings, from 8 x 10ft up to 16 x 44ft, with extremely good results.
